Located close to the Distillery District area of downtown Toronto, the Enoch Turner School House is the oldest free school in Toronto. It was established in 1848 by local brewer Enoch Turner. The school closed in 1859, but continued to be used through the years until the 1960s when it was used as a Sunday school and Parish hall for Little Trinity Church. In 1899 it became a Boer War recruitment center, and a soup kitchen providing nourishment for over 1500 people a week.

In the 1950s it was a youth clubhouse, and the 1960s it was a home for concerts, youth programs and performing visual arts events. It was in desperate need of repair, so Architect Eric Arthur and local residents, saved and restored the schoolhouse for Governor General Roland Michener, who then opened it as a historic site. It is now designated as a heritage building because of its history and architect and is Toronto’s oldest surviving building.

This charming Victorian room is the largest, and will accommodate up to 150 guest for a sit down dinner. The exposed wood beams compliment the Gothic style windows perfect for wedding photographs. The Schoolroom and Salon are perfect for pre- dinner cocktails and are great as a break out space for corporate events. Many couples hold the ceremony in the Schoolroom and have a bar in the Salon with the reception in the West Hall. During the day the light streams through the Gothic style windows. By night the exposed beams add warmth to the room, making this a unique setting for Enoch Turner School House weddings, corporate events, workshops, and receptions.
