Located in the St Lawrence neighbourhood of downtown Toronto, the St Lawrence Centre for the Arts was designed by Gordon S Adamson and associates, and opened for the first time in 1970. The complex houses two auditoriums, the Bluma Appel Theater and the Jane Mallett Theater. Both theaters were renovated in the 1980’s and renamed by substantial support by the late Mrs Bluma Appel and in tribute to the Canadian actress Jane Mallett’s life and accomplishments. The centre went under further renovation to the theatres exterior and interior in 2007.
Bluma Appel Theatre
The theater seats 868 guests and is perfect for large scale theatrical productions, fundraising, award galas, conferences, corporate events, and product launches. The theatre can provide the most demanding staging requirements, as well as broadcast recording, video conferencing and web casting. The theater is well equipped including a flying system, sound equipment, lighting board and instruments. The theater is fully licensed with bars on each level for your guests to enjoy drinks in the lobby or at their seats during the performance. Facilities also include washrooms and a coat check. In addition to the lobby there is a private lounge which will accommodate up to 30 guests. The backstage features a production office, nine dressing rooms, each with washrooms. There is a mirrored rehearsal hall approximately 1,200 square feet with a sprung floor, and piano, it is perfect for warm ups. To accompany the rehearsal room, there is a Green Room for relaxing. The lobby can accommodate up to 300 guests for a reception, and is perfect for pre and post show cocktails and a sit down dinner.
Jane Mallett Theatre
The theater seats 497 guests and offers a warm friendly environment with excellent acoustics. The semi-circular thrust stage is perfect for productions from a solo speaker to the highest audio visual presentation. The theatre can accommodate all kinds of theatrical or corporate presentations as well as concerts, award ceremonies, plays, stand-up comedy, fundraising events, films, corporate meetings and conferences. Your guests can enjoy drinks in the lobby or at their seats during the performance. The lobby can accommodate up to 250 guests for a reception upstairs, and an additional 150 downstairs, making this perfect for pre and post show cocktails, corporate events, or a sit down dinner. The lobby amenities include coat check facilities and washrooms.
